Gussied-Up Pigs in a Blanket with Spicy Animal Sauce

Whether its game day or awards show viewing, I like to keep the snacks simple and classic. Pigs in a blanket are one of my favorites and these take store-bought frozen pigs in a blanket and ups the ante with a coating of furikake and sesame seeds and are served with a slightly spicy sweet sauce inspired by In-N-Out’s famous animal sauce.

Makes 24

INGREDIENTS

2 dozen frozen pigs in a blanket, unthawed
1 large egg
2 tablespoons furikake
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

Spicy Animal Sauce
½ cup Greek yogurt
2 tablespoons kewpie mayonnaise
3 tablespoons gochujang
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon rice wine vinegar

METHOD

Preheat oven according to package instructions. Line a sheet pan with parchment.

To make the sauce, mix together in a small bowl, Greek yogurt, kewpie mayonnaise, gochujang, sweet pickle relish, honey and rice wine vinegar. Cover and place in the fridge.

Crack egg into a small bowl and whisk with 1 tablespoon of tap water.

In another shallow bowl, add furikake and sesame seeds and mix to combine.

Brush the tops of each pig in a blanket (try to make sure that the seam side of the pastry is on the bottom) and roll in the furikake mixture, pressing the mixture to adhere to the pastry. Lay on the sheet pan. Repeat the process until all pigs are coated—and arrange on the sheet pan at least 1” apart.

Bake according to package instructions or until pastry is deep golden brown.

Serve pigs warm with sauce on the side.
