CHECKING IN: Gardiner House
Let’s check in and check out this waterfront luxury gem that’s designed to feel like home, shall we?
THE WHERE:
Newport, RI
THE WHAT:
The newly built 21 room luxury boutique hotel was designed to feel like a classic Newport family home, and why shouldn’t it? The proprietors—Wirt Blaffer and Howard Cushing have deep roots in Newport—and the Cushing family home, The Ledges, was the inspiration for the interiors. Set on Lee’s Wharf just steps from famed Thames Street, Gardiner House offers up a chic cocktail of Gilded Age elegance and contemporary ease where art and antiques mingle with richly lacquered walls and sweeping views. You’ll feel it the moment you enter the lobby with it’s sweeping staircase and stunning wall mural which is a reproduction of the original one by Howard’s great grandfather, Howard Gardiner Cushing, that adorns the foyer walls at The Ledges.
THE WHEN:
Newport is famously a summer resort town, and the waterfront city does come alive in the warmer months, but off-season brings on a cozier, more relaxed atmosphere and makes for the perfect romantic weekend getaway.
The YUM:
The hotel’s restaurant will open up this summer, but in the meantime step into the Studio Bar just off the lobby—designed to feel like your chic patrician Aunt’s library but with a warm modern twist—and tuck into lobster sliders and other classic fare whilst you sip on a cocktail dispatched from the bamboo paneled bar.
Whet Your Whistle: The Gardiner, featuring vodka, rose hip tea, lemon, bubbles.
The WHY?:
Gardiner House effortlessly intertwines timeless glamour with a charming dash of Wes Anderson-infused creativity that’s bound to put a smile on your face.
