Peter’s West Village NYC Guide

Charmed, I’m sure? And that’s what NYC’s West Village has in spades. This historic corner of the Big Apple is long-known for its tree-lined cobblestone streets, Federal-style townhouses, vibrant history and so much more. For locals and visitors alike, it’s the perfect neighborhood for a daytime stroll and brunch, or an evening of music and cocktails. As a WV resident for decades, I’m lucky to call it home! Here are some of my favorite spots to dine, shop, explore and so much more.

The newest restaurant from New York institution Angie Mar has been turning heads since its opening last Fall. Housed in the former Les Trois Chevaux space, the restaurant brings back the cool factor that was the Beatrice Inn, but with a whole new flavor. Make sure to try Mar's favorite, the sturgeon Charlemagne and one of my personal favs, the Crab Wellington.

The West Village outpost of Frédéric Vaucamps' Aux Merveilleux de Fred is full of the most delectable French desserts. The name comes from the merveilleaux cake, which Vaucamps set out to make a lighter version of and now is the must-have of his bakeries. Make sure to also try the Belgian waffles and cramiques—pure magic!

Manhattan's oldest chocolate house (founded in 1923!) is the place for artisan chocolates, all hand-made in small batches. It's also one of the largest selections of fresh gourmet chocolate in America, so you'll find yourself trying everything from truffles to almond bark, butter crunch and more. After you've exhausted your taste buds in their West Village location, head to their factory in Brooklyn for a tour and spot some of the tools from the 1920's that they still use today.
