That Special Sauce

Taking a shortcut to dinner on the table sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? Well guess what? Pre-made sauces can cut 4 steps into 1, and 45 minutes into 20, because all the flavors you want are right in the bottle, perfectly balanced and ready to go. Another great advantage? Versatility. Use them for marinades on meat or vegetables, then use them as a sauce or side condiment. There are so many dynamic small-batch independently owned companies producing pre-made sauces with premium ingredients and without preservatives or GMO’s. So, less work, more reward. Kind of a win win, isn’t it?

Here are some of my favorites:

Chili Crisp Grilled Cheese

For this grilled cheese, I’ve added chili crisp into the mix along with the ‘Madame’ which is a fancy way (like a Croque Madame, s’il vous plait) of saying fried egg.

Gochujang

Gochujang Brown Butter Cabbage Gratin

The humble cabbage gets a flavor boost with this cheesy gratin and spicy hit of Korean gochujang that brings a touch of kimchi vibes.

Hoisin Sauce

Crispy Mapo Tofu

Mapo tofu is a classic dish originating in the Sichuan province that brings tofu together with a spicy saucy ground meat mixture (usually beef) that’s poured on top.
