Baked Brie with Pear and Hazelnuts
This appetizer dish is party ready and truth be told it might be the only thing you’ll need to serve as it has cheese, fruit and nuts all combined together to create an oozy cheesy crunchy flavorsome bite.
Serves 6
INGREDIENTS
1 8 oz wheel of brie
1 ripe bosc pear, peeled, cored and diced
½ cup hazelnuts, roughly chopped
2 tbsp cup honey
3 tbsp ginger preserves
½ tsp cayenne
½ tsp kosher salt
¼ tsp black pepper
1 tsp orange zest
Flaky sea salt, for finishing
Toasted bread, crackers or pear slices for serving
METHOD
Preheat oven to 350F.
In a dry pan over medium heat, toast hazelnuts until golden brown. Transfer to a bowl to let cool.
Wipe out pan and add pear, honey, ginger preserves, cayenne, salt and pepper and stir to combine. Lower heat and simmer for 2 minutes or until reduced and thickened.
Line a small baking dish (dish should fit the brie with only a little room to spare, you can also use a gratin dish or a large ramekin) with a piece of parchment (parchment should reach the top edge of the dish). Spread hazelnuts on the parchment in roughly the same circumference as the brie wheel, then top with pear mixture. Place brie atop. Bake for 15 minutes.
To serve, carefully invert into a serving dish or shallow bowl. Finish with orange zest and flaky sea salt and serve hot with slices of crusty bread, crackers or pear slices.
