Good Guest

Never show up empty handed!

That’s a general rule of thumb when going to a friend’s place for lunch or dinner. Chances are they’ve put some effort into the food and drinks so why not give them a small token of appreciation. If you haven’t already asked ‘what can I bring’ and they’ve said ‘dessert or wine’ then that’s your cue. Keep it portable, perhaps potable, and always pretty.

Rule of thumb: don’t bring cut flowers. Unless you’re an award winning rosarian, forget it. Your host will need to spend time then to find a vase, fill it with water and deal with all that wrapping which will take them away from more urgent check-list items— like making sure the quiche isn’t burning in the oven.
